Lanzhou City is a prefecture level city, provincial capital, and Type II large city under the jurisdiction of Gansu Province. It is an important industrial base and comprehensive transportation hub in the northwest region of China, one of the important central cities in the western region, and an important node city in the Silk Road Economic Belt.

Lanzhou City is located in the geometric center of northwest China and Chinese Mainland. It has been built for more than 2000 years since the Qin Dynasty. Since ancient times, it has been a transportation hub and military fortress "connecting four regions and carrying thousands of miles". It is named Jincheng in the meaning of "Jincheng Tangchi" and is known as the "Pearl of the Yellow River". Lanzhou has benefited from the Silk Road and has become an important transportation hub and commercial port. Later on, it became one of the earliest cities in China to accept modern industrial civilization. After the establishment of the People's Republic of China, it was designated as one of the key industrial bases for construction by the state and became an important national base for petrochemical, biopharmaceutical, and equipment manufacturing.
