The university's history traces back to the establishment ofXiangyang Teachers College in May 1958, and it evolved through mergers and name changes, including the integration of Xiangyang Teachers College, Xiangfan Vocational University, and Xiangfan Education Institute in 1998 to form Xiangfan University, which was renamed Hubei University of Arts and Science in February 2012.
